Carnival

Carnival is a festival traditionally held in Roman Catholic and, to a lesser extent, Eastern Orthodox societies. Protestant areas usually do not have carnival celebrations or have modified traditions, such as the Danish Carnival or other Shrove Tuesday events. The Brazilian Carnaval is one of the best-known celebrations today, but many cities and regions worldwide celebrate with large, popular, and days-long events.

Carnival typically involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of a circus, mask and public street party. People often dress up or masquerade during the celebrations, which mark an overturning of daily life


In India, Carnival is celebrated in the states of Goa, Gujarat and Kerala. In Goa, Carnival is known as Intruz, and the largest celebration takes place in the city of Loutolim. The three-day-long festival of music and dancing in the streets culminates in a parade on Fat Tuesday. Crowds follow their partying with a buffet dinner of Goan cuisine.

The festival in Kerala is called Raasa ("fun" in Sanskrit) and takes place on Fat Tuesday. Organized by Catholic churches, the Raasa involves a public Mass and a parade of religious artifacts, including large copper vessels, a golden cross and a silver cross, and the Papal and Catholicate flag. For the "Chembeduppu" ceremony, people eat raw or half-boiled rice out of the copper vessels. Although many Christians participate only in the parade, Hindus and Muslims join in the other festivities, which often include fireworks.

The Kutch district in northern Gujarat celebrates the Kutch Carnival, also known as Rann Utshav.

It will start from Navlakhi Lack and travel 12 KM and end at Akotta Stadium. the start time is eveniong six oclock.
